Project: Mudroom

Let’s just dive in to my current project: the mudroom.  The mudroom is one of the most high-traffic rooms in the house.  It’s the main entrance for the family, it houses the 1st floor bathroom, the washer and dryer live there, and there’s the “pantry.”  I’d love to be able to close a door and ignore it, but that’s just not going to happen.  Here’s where we started:

Not the prettiest, is it?  But that’s ok, unlike the Cylons I DO have a plan!

Light / Paint – SW Aloof Gray / Door / Floating Shelves / Poster – Vintage, similar / Shelf / Rug

I’m not entirely sure how I want to do the floating shelves.  Since we’re doing an over-the-appliances shelf, I think 2 additional shelves above will be a bit much.  Also, I need to find a way to work a clothes-hanging bar into the mix (ain’t nobody got time to iron!).

The vintage poster is also kind of up in the air.  I had originally planned to re-hang bulletin boards for the kids’ art but J.C. thinks the poster would look better.  I need to get the poster mounted and framed, so it may be a while before I have to make a final decision.  I’ll probably just hang the boards for the kids in the mean time (hello, inertia!)

I really wanted this light but that’s a lot of dough to drop on a mudroom light when we have a TON of other upgrades to do.  Like prepare for the inevitable death of the washing machine.  Lights are easy to upgrade and the one in the mood board is inexpensive enough that I won’t feel guilty getting rid of it down the road.  And so the budget dance continues…

Doors are included because builder basic 6 panel doors feel boring and generic, and I’d like to add more Arts and Crafts character.  I may check out salvage shops and see what’s what there, vintage doors would be awesome!

So that’s the mudroom plan!  Now that I’ve worked out some user error technical issues with the blog, hopefully I’ll be posting more often.

Thanks for reading!
